Woodland Management
We already know that woodlands can provide us with enormous benefits. They play host to unique woodland amenities, and provide wildlife with niche habitats and food sources. Woodlands are also hugely effective at capturing atmospheric carbon which are sequestered in the trees and stored in the soil. By intercepting rainwater, they stabilise our hydrological cycles and help prevent flooding.
It is the responsibility of both woodland owners and managers to ensure the continuity of woodlands so our successors can reap the same benefits as us.
Woodland Inventory
Our Woodland Inventories compile information about what is present in your woodland, for instance:
-
Tree species, their age classes and age structures
-
Biodiversity and the presence of priority species and potential threats
-
Historical or culturally important features, such as ancient trees or monuments
Woodland Management Plans (WMP)
The first step in achieving sustainable woodland management is the creation of a Woodland Management Plan. This supports the planning and implementation of work proposals and their long term monitoring.

Tailored to the woodland’s stakeholders and guided by principles of sustainability, our Woodland Management Plans set out SMART aims and objectives, and explain how these will be implemented and monitored over the next 10 years or more. This may focus on, for example, the control of invasive species, the protection of important trees, tree replanting programmes, and/or managing trees for safety.

We produce maps to easily communicate information from the Woodland Management Plan and show a variety of topics or themes that may be affecting your woodland. We sensibly compartmentalise the woodland for ease of management; these are shown on our map and are reflected in the Inventory of the Plan of Operations.
Woodland Creation Plan (WCP)
A woodland creation project can feel like a great commitment. We have the expertise to guide you through the process and provide you with a detailed document outlining the strategy for establishing new woodlands that meets criteria set out by the Forestry Commission.
As part of our plans we help clearly define the goals for the woodland creation project. We assess the site by evaluating the current land use, soil conditions, topography, climate, and local biodiversity.

We will help determine the appropriate tree species to plant and plan design of the woodland, including considerations for tree spacing, planting density, and arrangement to optimize growth and benefits.
We will detail the ongoing management practices required to establish and maintenance of the woodland.
Woodland Grants
If you own or manage a woodland which is at least 0.5ha in area and 20m wide, you will likely be eligible for some of the woodland grants that are awarded by the Forestry Commission. We will act as an agent on your behalf to help secure these grants. Some of the most commonly used grants include:

-
Woodland Creation
-
Woodland Management Plan
-
Rhododendron Control
-
Tree Health Pilot
